Koryak People
The Koryak (approximately 7,000) inhabit Kamchatka Peninsula—one of Earth's most volcanically active regions with 29 active volcanoes and frequent earthquakes. They endure volcanic eruptions, seismic activity, tsunamis, extreme cold (-40°C), and isolation. Divided into coastal (Nymylan) maritime hunters and inland (Chavchyven) reindeer herders, they maintain shamanic traditions, raven creator mythology, and dual subsistence strategies in one of the planet's most geologically violent inhabited zones.
