Critically Endangered Arctic Tundra Dwellers

Enets People

The Enets (approximately 227 people, fewer than 50 fluent speakers) are one of the smallest and most endangered indigenous groups in Russia, inhabiting the Yenisei River tundra. They endure extreme Arctic conditions (-50°C), permafrost, polar night, and isolation. Traditional wild reindeer hunting, fishing, shamanism, and conical chum dwellings characterize their vanishing culture at the edge of extinction in one of Earth's harshest environments.
