Dukha (Tsaatan) People
The Dukha or Tsaatan ("reindeer people," approximately 400-500) inhabit the remote Darkhad Depression and taiga forests of northern Mongolia. They are among the last true reindeer herders, riding and milking reindeer while living in tepees. Enduring -50°C winters, isolation, and harsh mountain taiga, they maintain shamanic traditions and unique reindeer-centered nomadic culture now threatened by climate change and modernization.
