Awash Valley Peoples
Peoples of Ethiopia's Awash Valley inhabit the East African Rift—one of Earth's most volcanically and seismically active zones. They endure active volcanoes (Erta Ale, Dabbahu), frequent earthquakes, geothermal activity, extreme heat, and rapid rift formation (2005 Dabbahu eruption created 60km fissure in days). Living in the zone where Africa is literally splitting apart, with lava lakes, fumaroles, and ground constantly shifting. Pastoralism in volcanic badlands and witnessing continental breakup defines this rift zone existence.
